English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (41061) (1980)
Product Number: 004-002-29490
Currently, Dunhill pipes are stamped according to a four-digit shape system, but for a while, the English marque employed a five-digit system. The first four number corresponded to the system still in use today, but the fifth denoted a certain variation of that specific shape. In the case of this "06" Pot from 1980, it's version "1" and features a characteristically stout, squat bowl, offering muscular substance and classic shaping.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
