English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (587) (F/T) (4) (R) (1969/1970)
Product Number: 004-002-29874
This "583" from Dunhill is dated to 1969 or 1970, belonging to an era when the English marque used a three-digit numbering system to catalogue their pipes. Vintage and elegantly shaped, this handsome piece strikes a sleek profile, with the tall, upright bowl bolstered by the trim, low-slung shank-and-stem combination, anchoring all the visual weight at the bowl. Dressed in the gorgeous Root Briar finish, the cylindrical bowl presents plenty of exquisite birdseye across the flanks, with cross grain traveling the length of the shank.
The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipe smokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.--Davin Hylton
