English Estates: Dunhill Red Bark (5102) (BS) (1985) (Unsmoked)

Product Number: 004-002-29971

In the mid-1900s, Dunhill used a letter system to designate their pipe shapes before developing the number system they use today. At first glance, the "BS" stamp on this bent Billiard could be mistaken for this older shape-designation convention; however, the "5102" stamp clearly denotes this pipe as a Group 5 "02" bent Billiard. Instead of a shape code, the "BS" stamp refers to this example's vulcanite military mount, this flared style referenced by Dunhill as a "bell spigot" or "BS." It adds flourishing line work to the profile, and while The White Spot still features this mount style on some of their new pipes, it's quite a rare configuration, and the "BS" stamp has fallen out of usage, making this Red Bark piece from 1985 an appealing pipe for seasoned collectors.
