English Estates: James Upshall Smooth Bent Billiard (P) (FH)
Product Number: 004-002-30490
Precise shaping can be seen in each handmade pipe from James Upshall, with this bent Billiard exemplifying that standard. Fashioned in rather generous size as are many of the Upshall pieces, it features a slightly forward-ebbing bowl of stout proportions, with the upturned paneled shank creating a nice balance. It's topped by a jet-black, gently downturned vulcanite stem, promoting a comfortable smoking posture and contributing to a sinuous S-curve in silhouette. This piece is wearing a warm, traditional stain, showing off the briar's handsome grain patterns including clusters of birdseye and wispy flame grain on the right flank and left, respectively. Another carefully crafted pipe from James Upshall, whose works are considered to be among some of the best British pipes.-Angela Robertson
