English Estates: Dunhill Shell Briar Churchwarden with Silver (2621) (2014) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-31483
Dunhill Churchwardens are rather uncommon to come across on the estate market and even newer ones produced today are only found as part of the English marque's Quaint line, a series defined by non-standard shapes. This particular rendition was crafted in 2014 and measures ten inches in overall length. The slightly canted Dublin bowl is a Group 2, the lower-size numbers also being rather uncommon. It's paired to a willowy, elegantly arcing vulcanite mouthpiece, while the stummel is finished in the iconic Shell Briar sandblast. Whether you're a vintage Dunhill collector or have been searching for your next reading pipe, this silver-adorned piece shouldn't be missed.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
