English Estates: Barling's Make Ye Olde Wood Smooth Bulldog (T.V.F.) (EXEXEL) (Pre-Transition) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-31357

Made prior to Barling's transitional period, this Bulldog was crafted when the Barlings themselves controlled production, from 1960 and before, and its "EXEXEL" stamping gives a hint as to its large size. Measuring in at over six inches long, the reach of this piece from rim to button is rather reserved in comparison to its expansive bowl, one which spreads out to more than two inches in breadth. The flare from the firm-heeled base stops at a pair of beadlines that mark the taper to the rim, with the rim itself overlooking a broad chamber, the thick walls surrounding it sure to insulate the hand well. A consistent taper flows through the shank from the transition, and its diamond shape lends it a bit of structure while keeping the look of the aft end sleek. Dressing the stummel is a warm mahogany stain, courtesy of the Ye Olde Wood finish, that reveals licks of flame grain surrounding the bottom half of the stummel (from the flanks of the diamond shank and from the beadlines down) and birdseye at the top.
