English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (11101) (1978) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-31946
Dated to 1978, this "10" Liverpool from Dunhill is presented in petite Group 1 size, one of the English marque's rarest size designations and their smallest as well. Sleek and slender, this piece pairs a pert, upright Billiard bowl to a protracted round shank and a tapered stem of jet-black vulcanite. Measuring less than five inches in total length, this piece is compact and lightweight, which lends it well to easy clenching between the teeth. It's dressed in the ruby hues of the Bruyere smooth finish, highlighting some impressive grain around the bowl.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
