English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (41151) (1979) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-32786
A striking bent Billiard from Dunhill, this Group 4-sized piece boasts a stout, muscular bowl that rises proudly at the fore of a high-climbing shank-and-stem arrangement. The firm, structural lines of the diamond shank offer some lively contrast to the overall shape's fluid silhouette, while the bowl's rotund form fills the hand with a pleasing girth. The ruby-hued Bruyere smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights impressive swathes of birdseye across the bowl, adding further visual flair to this vintage piece.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
