English Estates: James Upshall Smooth Bent Dublin (P) (FH) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-32813
A sinuously bent Dublin from James Upshall, this piece demonstrates the English marque's more dramatically-inclined side, with a style reminiscent of the Italian neoclassical school of design. The bowl here takes center stage thanks to its appreciable height, taking on a very gentle flare from its sweeping heel to the rim, its nearly cylindrical walls and ample curvature lending it a comfortable feel in hand, especially given the wideness of its transition. This wide transition affords the bowl a striking forward cant while simultaneously lifting up the transition to meet a demurely curved stretch of tapering vulcanite that's acrobatically poised for comfortable smoking. The silhouette here is rich with plunging curves that draw the eye toward the bowl and the stummel's warm, light, auburn-hued stain, the dressing revealing tight striations of flame grain throughout this freehand-carved piece.-John McElheny
