English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (41282) (1978) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-32816
Refined and elegant, the Diplomat is a lesser-seen shape that combines elements of an Apple and Prince, essentially being an Author but with an oval shank for a more streamlined profile. This variant includes subtle ridgelines on each of the shank flanks, for a bit more structured nuance. This Group 4 rendering of Dunhill's "28" shape showcases a plump, broad bowl set to a slightly bent shank-and-stem configuration, all dressed in the handsome Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
