English Estates: Ashton Sovereign Belge with Silver (XX) (2019) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-32875
Similar to the Cutty shape, minus the heel spur, the Belge dates back to when pipes were crafted entirely from clay. These shapes were often rendered in long, willowy proportions and have since become known as "tavern pipes" due to their prevalence in bars and pubs well over a century ago. Here, Ashton delivers a lengthy, elegant take on the timeless form with its Egg-like bowl displaying just a touch of forward cant in profile. Said bowl is in cross grain orientation, dressed in the light chestnut stain of the Sovereign finish that perfectly highlights the briar's natural grain. A colorful brindled vulcanite stem of forest green and mauve tones provide some subtle contrast and results in a classically inclined piece that will easily stand out in any collection, especially with the sterling silver band accenting the shank.
