English Estates: Astley's Smooth Bent Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-32932
Astley's was a famous tobacconist that catered to the tastes of London's pipes smokers and sourced its private line of pipes from various English marques and workshops. This Billiard was one of the pipes that was sold under the Astley's name. It's a fairly straightforward rendition of the shape-chart standard, albeit one with a touch of extra stoutness along the transition, bowl, and shank. The serpentine S-curve of the shank-and-stem arrangement encourages a comfortable smoking posture, and the bowl houses a respectably deep chamber within its softly contoured insulating walls. Dressed in a dark auburn stain, the smooth briar displays some rather handsome tendrils of flame grain about the bowl.
