English Estates: Dunhill Shell Briar (107) (F/T) (3) (1971) (Aftermarket Band) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-32915

Presented in Group 3 size, this vintage "107" Apple from Dunhill is truly a testament to the marque's extraordinary shaping and finishing skills. The plump, rounded bowl offers a softly chamfered rim with an equally muscular shank and stem tapering toward the bit, the proportions handsomely balanced. This more than 50-year-old pipe has been dressed in the marque's iconic Shell Briar sandblast for plenty of rugged appeal, revealing handsome grain while keeping the look understated. An aftermarket band of silvery metal adorns the junction for a touch of flash, and the price has been adjusted accordingly.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
