English Estates: Barling's Make Smooth Billiard (143F) (Pre-Transition) (Replacement Stem) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-33027
Pipes from Barling's Pre-Transition era are highly collectible, as they represent a time when the esteemed Barling family still oversaw production. This Billiard showcases the deft shaping and handsome finishing work that defined Barling pipes made before the early 1960s. Shape-wise, it presents a tall, charmingly canted bowl that stands proudly at the fore of an oval shank and a sleek tapered stem. The overall composition strikes a clean, streamlined profile free of an unnecessary frills or dramatic design cues, allowing the elegant line work and handsome grain to take center stage. It's all dressed in a warm auburn stain that does well to highlight some beautiful grain throughout the stummel, with impressive birdseye on either flank of the bowl. It bears noting that this piece wears a replacement stem, and that the price has been adjusted accordingly.
