English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (4134) (2001) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-33134
Rendered in a tall, fairly lengthy Group 4 size, this "34" straight Brandy from Dunhill consists of a robust bowl with a gently rounded heel that gradually tapers toward the rim. A rounded shank and a tapered stem bring up the rear and add an elegant sleekness to the shape's silhouette. Dressed in the dark, ruby hues of the Bruyere finish, this piece displays some fetching birdseye around the flanks of the bowl.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
