English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (3112) (1993) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-33044
Dated to 1993, this vintage "12" is a lightweight, trim Stack that features a tall, deep-chambered bowl paired to a rounded shank and a tapered stem that terminates gracefully at the lip button. The low-set transition further accentuates the bowl's height without being too dramatic or excessive. This piece's traditional appeal is cemented thanks to the rich, ruby tones of the marque's iconic Bruyere finish, colors that, in this piece, have lightened to a warm mahogany, revealing fields of birdseye on either flank of the bowl.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-John McElheny
