English Estates: BBB Smooth Bulldog with Silver (1939) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-33108
Nearly a century old, this Bulldog from BBB was crafted in 1939, and is a squat, muscular rendition of the classic shape, maintaining the form's heartiness throughout its build. At less than four and a half inches long, this Nosewarmer is prepped for pocket carry, though given its age, this may be inadvisable, however its relative lightness given the muscular proportions allows for easy clenching. The shank and stem here are surprisingly thick, their diamond shape staying straight and consistently large through to the stem base, the saddle bit offering a touch of sleekness at the end of the aft. Up front, a plump, bulb-like bowl sits atop a sharply-defined heel, with a pair of the shank's ridges pushing through the flanks and wrapping up and around the bowl's lower portion. The walls flare to a pair of beadlines, marking the flares apex and denoting the start of a taper to the flat rim, completing the iconic shape with ample style and traditional grace. Dressed in a warm mahogany stain, this pipe showcases some handsome grain throughout, while a broad fitment of silver at the junction offers rich, elegant contrast.-John McElheny
