English Estates: Dunhill Shell Briar with 6mm Silver (4111) (2014) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-33207

A thoroughly traditional Lovat rendered in Group 4 size, Dunhill's "11" shape is a textbook example of the timeless design. The stout bowl houses a good bit of chamber within thick walls and is paired to the form's rounded shank and short saddle stem, maintaining a utilitarian compactness that allows it to be easily transported in a jacket pocket. It's dressed in the marque's classic Shell Briar finish, the dark sandblast revealing tight stacks of ring grain, and is further commended by a bright band of silver at the shank end, resulting in a handsome dress pipe aesthetic.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
