English Estates: Unknown Smooth Lovat with 14K Gold Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-33844

A wonderfully classic rendering of the timeless Lovat shape, this piece from an unknown carver is possessed of the extended shank and trim saddle stem iconic to the profile. A wide transition leaves plenty of room to drape a thumb, and lends the bowl a touch of forward-canting dynamism before giving way to the shank. A junction marked with a band of 14 karat gold offers a great deal of intrigue at the aft end, and this is balanced not only by the bowl's hearty presence, but by its own unique accent. At the fore of the bowl a brassy inlay of an intricately carved stag's head erupts from the briar, its horns enclosing a clock's face centered around a small star: one of the symbols of the Elk's Lodge. The dark hues of the stummel's smooth finish allow these twin fitments to stand out readily, capturing the eye and holding it with ample flair.
