Since its founding in 1978, James Upshall has earned a reputation for brawny, atypical renditions of traditional English pipes. This Extra Large smooth Dublin furthers James Upshall's foray into the extraordinary. At first, the long, oval shank and tapered stem remind one of the Canadian shape, but the gigantic bowl that tapers up to the rim firmly plants this pipe in the Dublin category. The smooth, light-brown finish brings out astonishing tendrils of flame grain and undulating growth rings, which wrap all the way around the Extra Large bowl. The wide rim provides thick, insulating walls for the cavernous chamber, while also displaying pockets of birdseye. The striking briar grain is fitted with a cumberland stem that was hand cut from a rod of vulcanite, elevating this pipe even more.
