Bill Ashton-Taylor got his start making pipes for Dunhill, but after mastering the craft, realized he needed to set out on his own, so he founded the British marque Ashton. Sadly, Bill passed away in 2009, but pipe maker Jimmy Craig proudly carries on the Ashton name. This shape-chart standard Billiard by Ashton carries the marque's "XXX" stamp, indicating its considerable size. The tall bowl ever-so-slighty tapers to a trim rim coated in birdseye, which slides down the rear of the bowl and top of the shank. A black vulcanite saddle stem opposes the crisp, honey smooth Sovereign finish — among Ashton's few non-sandblasted presentations.
