English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere with Silver (6117) (2019) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

One of Dunhill's many classic shapes, the "17" is a squater, more muscular interpretation of the archetypal Bulldog. Additonally, the Group 6 size enhances the already brawny elements. The exceptionally wide domed upper bowl is engraved with two beadlines, which rest just above an angular bottom, where two side panels meet in a triangular shape that extends into the diamond shank. The vulcanite tapered stem joins with the stummel at a thin, understated, silver band, which accentuates the smooth Bruyere finish.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
