English Estates: Askwith Giant Sandblasted Bulldog Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-33789
English artisan Chris Askwith looks at the British shape charts more like guidelines rather than rules, resulting in original, striking pipes. This behemoth of a Bulldog by Askwith enhances the classic British shape with sharp muscularity. The shank-stem combination is so immense, one wants to double check the airway to make sure it isn't an inch in diameter. A stnadard airway is encapsulated by a diamond shank, though, whose bottom edge extends to a pointed heel. A single, deeply-engraved beadline marks a transition in the sandblasted grain, as the lower dome features raised growth rings while the upper dome exclusively displays pockmarks of birdseye. Surprisingly, the massive bowl has a slender chamber, but half of a tamper will disappear as one probes for the bottom.--Zach Podl
