English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (42011) (1978) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-33857
Simple and neat, with no need for adornments, this "01" classic Apple shape from Dunhill is eye-catching, its streamlined form rendered in Group 4 size. The bowl is pleasingly plump but not exaggerated, and the round shank and elegantly tapered mouthpiece offer sleekness to contrast the bowl's roundness and poise it at the fore. Dressed in the rich tones of the Bruyere finish and paired with a sleek saddle stem this refined piece would be a welcome addition to any rotation.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Gabriel Bass
