We spend a fair bit of time and words devoted to the great English factory marques, which makes it easy to forget there are some fine British briars made by hand, like those by James Upshall. This pert, upright rendition of the Bulldog boasts the stout muscularity associated with the marque, housing an enormous chamber capacity, yet easily managed in hand. Replete with the traditional shape's tapered rim, twin beadlines, and sloping flanks, the bowl is set to a softly lined diamond shank and a saddle stem of equal heartiness.
