English Estates: Dunhill Shell (3106) (1994) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-34983
Dunhill's "06" is quite similar to the iconic proportions of the marque's "03" Billiard, most notably the arrow-straight shank and sleek stem. However, their bowls differ significantly, as compared to the supple disposition of the "03," the "06" possesses thick, insulating, cylindrical walls that house a capacious chamber. Overall, the robust bowl makes the "06" one of Dunhill's most muscular shape across all Group sizes, with this example rendered in archetypal Group 3 dimensions and dressed in Dunhill's Shell Briar finish.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
