English Estates: Dunhill Shell Briar (4106) (2017) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-34930

Lovers of classic English shapes and Dunhill in particular will adore this "06" Pot. It's a spot on interpretation, featuring a broad tobacco chamber that's supported by the stout chamber walls. Rendered in Group 4 proportions, it's a muscular rendition but the profile remains sleek and streamlined through the shank and stem, with the mouthpiece tapering gradually toward the lip button. It's finished here in a crisp application of the Shell Briar sandblast with an abundance of undulating ring grain traversing the bowl's surface.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
