English Estates: GBD Virgin Lovat (9457) (pre-1980) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-36983
GBD, its name deriving from those of its three founders Ganneval, Bondier, and Donninger, originally began life in Paris in 1850. In later years, the company would be sold to A. Oppenheimer & Co. in London in 1902, where it would become an English marque. Taking a slightly more bowl-centric approach to the classic shape, this Lovat from GBD features a tall, robust bowl positioned at the fore with an upright posture, formed by thick walls reaching from heel to rim. A round, protracted shank transitions from the bowl and pairs to a sleek, abbreviated saddle stem, the arrangement completing the form's iconic profile. The stummel wears a fetching hazelnut stain, which highlights whorls of birdseye across both flanks.
