English Estates: Dunhill Shell Briar (LBS) (F/T) (4) (S) (1969) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-34972

This vintage, straight Billiard from Dunhill is a large, impressive piece, as it's rendered in Group 4 size and is stamped "LBS" to indicate it's a slightly more slender Large Billiard. Boasting a height of nearly two inches and length of nearly six, this robust pipe is full-bodied and comforting in hand. Featuring a capacious chamber and seamless, arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement, its proportions are pleasantly balanced. Fashioned in 1969 and wearing the Shell Briar finish, this "LBS" exudes vintage Dunhill charm.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
