English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (51033) (1981) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-35065

For those unfamiliar with Dunhill's mid-70s to early-80s use of five-digit stamps, this is an "033" shape, not a mis-stamped "33," which would be a bent Brandy, by today's chart. The "033" straight Billiard appears to be, as rule, a big one — all of the examples we've seen have been Group 5 or 6 in size. As is often the case with Dunhill, there is a bit of variation to be found, although this piece presents archetypal, streamlined proportions. Additionally, this "033" features Dunhill's esteemed Root Briar appellation, further elevating its prestigious charm.

The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipe smokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.
