English Estates: Dunhill Tanshell (6) (F/T) (4) (T) (1964) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-35113

Dunhill's "06" is quite similar to the iconic proportions of the marque's "03" Billiard, most notably the arrow-straight shank and sleek stem. However, their bowls differ significantly. Compared to the supple disposition of the "03," the "06" possesses thick, cylindrical walls that house a capacious chamber. Overall, the robust bowl makes the "06" one of Dunhill's most muscular shape across all Group sizes, with this example rendered in archetypal Group 3 dimensions and dressed in Dunhill's Tanshell finish.

Created in 1951, the Tanshell marked Dunhill's fourth finish behind the Bruyere (1910), Shell Briar (1917), and Root Briar (1931); however, Dunhill didn't complete the "Tanshell" stamp until December 1951, waiting until 1952 to actually introduce the first Tanshell pipes. Considered one of the English marque's rarest, most collectible finishes, the Tanshell boasts a concise sandblast but unlike the dark-stained Shell Briar, the Tanshell is naturally stained, intended to develop a warm patina as it darkens with prolonged use over time.
