English Estates: Dunhill Shell (5226) (2003) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-35231

Rendered in Group 5 size, this "26" Oom Paul from Dunhill features a robust build. The bowl stands tall with a subtle forward cant, its walls reaching high from the flattened heel toward the rim. A muscular, fully bent shank makes a broad transition from the bowl, pairing with a sharply curved saddle stem for a comfortable jaw-hanging posture. Dunhill's iconic Shell Briar sandblast dresses the stummel, granting this piece a dark, rugged complexion.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
