English Estates: Dunhill Chestnut Quaint Billiard (5) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-36778
Dunhill's Quaint line is reserved for more unique pieces that don't fit into the English marque's standard shape chart. This Group 5 Egg-like Billiard is charmingly picturesque, peculiar piece in the best of ways. The tall bowl is deep of chamber and firm in hand, but it's the shank and stem that offer the most clever eccentricity — almost wasp-waisted, the shank and stem taper toward the transition and the button, bulging slightly in the middle to match the bowl's waistline and making for quite the whimsical profile. Dressed here in the dark, glossy finish of the Chestnut line, it's fitted handsomely with a cumberland stem.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
