English Estates: Charatan's Make Selected Bent Dublin (City of London) (Extra Large) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-37025
Founded by Fredrick Charatan in 1863, the Charatan brand is most famously known as the first company to entirely hand-make briar pipes from the block to the finished product. The term "Charatan's Make" refers to the method of assembly that differentiated Charatan pipes from the rest of the world. Many Charatan pipes go against the grain when it comes to traditional English pipe archetypes, offering more dynamic designs than you'll find in other classic shape charts.
This bent Dublin from Charatan combines angularity with organicism, as the bowl's walls rise and flare from a softly pointed heel toward a plateau-crowned rim. Out back, a rounded shank begins the aft's bend toward the bit as it meets the shoulders of a Double Comfort saddle stem. Stamped as "Extra Large," this piece fills the palm with substance and presents a hearty bowl with a capacious chamber capacity, which should ensure plenty of long, leisurely smoking sessions. The stummel is dressed in a warm chestnut stain and its smooth finish highlights impressive flame grain across the bowl's flanks.
