English Estates: Dunhill Cumberland (2102) (2021) Tobacco Pipe

One of the most iconic pipe designs, the bent Billiard has been a mainstay on the classic shape chart since pipes first started being carved from briar. Dunhill is known for its traditional realization of classics, and, for many collectors and pipe smokers, the English marque's "02" bent Billiard is considered the archetypal rendition to which all others are compared. Here, in Group 2 size, it's fit for any occasion — fitting into a pocket while also comfortably clenched hands-free. This is a rather unique iteration of the shape, as it's been slightly extended through the shank and stem and is possessed of a more languid curvature throughout, all of this extra length doing well to show off the iconic stem and crisp sandblast of the Cumberland series.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
