English Estates: GBD Popular Smooth Bulldog (1734) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-37371

GBD, its name deriving from those of its three founders Ganneval, Bondier, and Donninger, originally began life in Paris in 1850. In later years, the company would be sold to A. Oppenheimer & Co. in London in 1902, where it would become an English marque. This "1734" bent Bulldog is a somewhat softer take on the form, though it retains a robust character. The bowl stands tall and upright, its figure formed by smooth, supple walls flaring from the firm heel toward a subtle ridgeline at the waist, which marks a gradual taper to the flat rim. Out back, a sturdy diamond shank subtly lifts from the bowl's transition and meets a gingerly downturned saddle stem, the pair forming a graceful profile. Dressing the stummel is a smoky chestnut stain that reveals handsome grain.
