English Estates: James Barber Otley Smooth Billiard (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-37388

James Barber is an English tobacconist whose history stretches back to 1867, with Joseph Barber's founding of a tobacco importation business in the village of Otley. From here, he personally oversaw the shipping of more than 30 shiploads of tobacco from his farms in Virginia and Kentucky back to England, expanding to later establish a pipe tobacco factory and a retail store. In 1938 the factory burnt down, and, after relocating the retail store twice, the business began to focus on the tobacco shop. Now, James Barber runs the eponymous shop, and the store itself has grown to become one of the largest retail tobacco stores outside of London. This Billiard comes from the brand's personal line of pipes and it showcases a truly timeless look, with a balanced build proportionally, though it maintains a hearty substance in hand. The transition is wide and gives way to a very subtly tapering shank that's met by a sleek saddle stem of black vulcanite, keeping the aft side rather slender. Up front, the bowl stands atop a rounded heel and grows thick walls that taper gently to the rim, offering plenty of space to showcase the stummel's warm stain.
