English Estates: Dunhill Chestnut with Silver Army Mount (4407) (2002) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-37693
Presented in Group 4 size, this "07" Prince possesses the form's signature poise, though it shows a stronger bend in profile for a more active character. Squat and plump, the bowl's figure contours well to the hand, formed by supple walls curving from the broad heel and tapering toward the flat rim. A compact shank pairs to the bowl out back and joins to an arcing tapered stem via a silver army mount, allowing this piece to be broken down. The stummel showcases handsome grain beneath the rich stain of Dunhill's Chestnut finish, complemented by the warm, variegated hues of the cumberland stem.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
