English Estates: Dunhill Chestnut (5103) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-38045
Considered by many to be the archetypal Billiard, Dunhill's "03" design is highly favored for its understated elegance and natural, well-balanced proportions. This particular Group 5-sized rendition is elevated by a military mount of ruby and black vulcanite. The mount works in conjunction with the tapered, push-style stem to ensure easy disassembly. The bowl is firm and stocky, and it pairs well with abbreviated shank that stretches out back. The smoky Chestnut finish commends the briar quite nicely and highlights striking grain on either flank of the bowl.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
