English Estates: Charatan's Make Belvedere Bent Pot (489DC) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-37766
Founded by Fredrick Charatan in 1863, the Charatan brand is most famously known as the first company to entirely hand-make briar pipes from the block to the finished product. The term "Charatan's Make" refers to the method of assembly that differentiated Charatan pipes from the rest of the world. Many Charatan pipes go against the grain when it comes to traditional English pipe archetypes, offering more dynamic designs than you'll find in other classic shape charts.
A more muscular version of the classic silhouette, this "489DC" bent Pot from Charatan offers a satisfying feel in the hand and between the teeth. From a rounded heel, the plump walls of the bowl rise to meet the flat rim that looks into the spacious tobacco chamber. Out back, a tightly-knit transition gives way to the paneled flanks of the shank before they meet the equally broad base of a Double-comfort saddle stem. Made of black vulcanite, the mouthpiece completes the bend of this pipe, giving it a jaw-hanging posture. Along the rich ruby-stained stummel, patches of cross grain and birdseye compete for the smoker's attention.
