English Estates: Loewe & Co. 'Melton' Smooth Billiard (1956-1968) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-37978
In 1865, Frenchman Emil Loewe founded Loewe & Co. in London and became well-regarded for his metal spigots. After this, the history of Loewe & Co. becomes quite unclear. However, it is known that the company changed ownership multiple times and eventually landed in the hands of Comoy's. It was during the 1980s that Comoy's started promoting and selling Loewe's shapes and designs.<\p>
Dated between 1956 and 1968, this Billiard from Loewe & Co. boasts a lightweight, compact design, making it well-suited for an on-the-go smoker. At the fore, the bowl stands pert and upright, formed by supple, Apple-like walls that rise from its rounded heel towards the flat rim. The wide transition gives way to a cylindrical stank that reaches out toward the tapering stem of black vulcanite. This Billiard is outfitted with an elongated tenon that resembles a stinger, an attribute that showcases this pipe's vintage. Dressing this piece is a chestnut stain that highlights handsome grain along the stummel.
