English Estates: Unknown Meerschaum Rusticated Rhodesian Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-37877
Before briar was the standard medium for pipe making, meerschaum, also known as sepiolite, was a preferred material among craftsmen. Known for its flavor-neutral smoking properties and ability to patinate, meerschaum is also incredibly moldable when wet, making it the perfect material for detailing carvings and creative designs. With Turkish origins dating back to the early 18th century, this material has stood the test of time and still produces incredible designs today.
Created by an unknown craftsman, this Rhodesian made of meerschaum is a unique piece, as this shape chart standard is typically seen in briar. This pipe will add diversity to any collection, offering an amalgamation of textures, hues, and materials. From a rounded heel, the walls of the bowl rise to a soft ridgeline before they taper slightly inward to the rim. From a wide transition, the shank arcs to the height of the rim before meeting a bold metallic accent band at the junction. The accent gives way to the shoulders of a saddle stem that continues the pipe's bend before its completion at the bit.
