English Estates: GBD Century Bent Bulldog (549) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-37869

Forged in Paris in 1850 by three men looking to make new strides for the pipe industry, GBD was the brainchild of Ganneval, Bondier, and Donninger. Initially specializing in meerschaum pipes, GBD won 15 medals of achievement within its first 40 years. These awards set the stage for the company's success in Europe, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and the U.S.A. Eventually, in 1902, the company was sold to A. Oppenheimer & Co., which brought the business to England

A stout version of the classic design, this "549" bent Bulldog from GBD creates a pleasant smoking experience with a gratifying feel in hand and between the teeth. The signature diamond shape of the Bulldog is on full display along the shank and base of the saddle stem, where sharp panels form the conventional silhouette. The bottom panels extend all the way to the heel of the bowl, creating a point from which the walls rise to twin beadlines around the waist. The black vulcanite out back marries the mahogany stain along the stummel to give this pipe an elegant and sophisticated aesthetic.
