English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere (5122) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-38224
A fine Sitter thanks to its flattened heel, this sturdy "22" Poker is rendered in robust Group 5 proportions, Dunhill's second-largest standard size designation. It maintains the utilitarian, classic appeal associated with The White Spot pipes and boasts a capacious tobacco chamber in its rather stout, cylindrical bowl. A low-set transition is followed by a stretch of round shank and elegantly tapered stem, both of which provide pleasant proportional balance to the bowl, the lines and curves fashioned with precision. This piece is wearing the beautiful, grain-defining Bruyere finish, dressing the briar in a dark, auburn stain that works well with the black stem to foster a classic aesthetic.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
