English Estates: Dunhill Chestnut (51033) (1982) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-38407
A robust Group 5 Billiard from Dunhill, this "03" dates to 1982 and carries the old five-digit stamping that was later changed to the now-standard four-numbered shape chart system. Another pipe in this particular update, a Tanshell, comprises three digits, whereas most others carry four in the English marque's engaging shape-numbering system. The muscular aesthetic of the form here can be seen from the thick-walled, stout bowl through the transition and shank, which, together with the the tapered vulcanite stem, boasts a pleasing proportional balance. This pipe is wearing the warm finish of Dunhill's Chestnut line.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
