English Estates: Charatan's Make Selected Dublin (FH) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-38499

In 1863, Fredrick Charatan opened up a shop on Mansell Street in London, thus Charatan's brand established its roots in the English pipe world. Charatan's was the first brand to make entirely hand-made pipes, coining the term "Charatan's make," which refers to this original process of production, setting apart the name from commonly assembled pre-drilled bowls. In 1950, Lane Ltd became the sole distributor of Charatan's, causing the Charatan name to spread to the US. Eventually, the Charatan's company was sold to Dunhill in 1978. Flared at the rim and boasting an elegant taper to the firm heel, this Dublin from Charatan is a handsomely shaped piece. The broad bowl is balanced in profile by a sturdy shank and trim stem, the latter of which tapers to the bit, ensuring an easy clench. Dressing this piece is a chestnut smooth finish that highlights fine tendrils of flame grain across the bowl's flanks and swirls of birdseye along the rim.
