English Estates: Dunhill Bruyere 'Innertube' Patent (60) (Aftermarket 14k Band) (Replacement Stem) (1927) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-38545
Marked with the "Innertube" patent, this vintage "60" Billiard from Dunhill is dated to 1927, placing it among their highly sought-after patent-era pipes. A pert, upright bowl is positioned at the fore, formed by walls that rise from a plump heel to a flat rim. Transitioning from the bowl is a proportionally balanced shank that joins a gradually tapering stem of jet-black vulcanite at a 14k gold accent band. Dressing this piece is Dunhill's iconic Brueye finish, showcasing lovely birdseye patches along the entire left flank. The 14k gold accent and stem mentioned above are both aftermarket additions.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
