English Estates: Dunhill Chestnut (4104) (1980) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-38915
Dunhill's "04" straight Bulldog is here rendered in balanced Group 4 size, measuring just a touch over five inches in length. This is a rather compact pipe for its Group size, though the proportions are spot on and the shaping is indicative of the White Spot's timelessly traditional style. The bowl wears the Bulldog's iconic beadlines, and in this piece, the overall shaping of the bowl is more rounded and Acorn-like, instead of crisply tapered above and below the beadlines. Such roundness contrasts, then, against the hard lines of the diamond shank and stem.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
