English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (LBS) (4) (R) (1962) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-39183
Stamped "LBS," this Group 4 piece is a more slender iteration of Dunhill's Large Billiards, though it still retains a robust physique. Introduced after the end of World War I, Dunhill's "LB" pipes are characterized by their more strapping proportions and subtly Apple-like bowls, as seen in this example from 1962. The bowl stands tall and upright, with supple walls reaching from heel to rim with an easy curve. A muscular, balanced shank transitions from the bowl and pairs to a gradually tapering stem, the latter of which lends this piece a sleek, streamlined profile. Courtesy of Dunhill's iconic Root Briar finish, this pipe wears a warm, light stain that reveals handsome grain throughout.
The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipe smokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.
