English Estates: Barling Surbrug Best Make Smooth Bent Bulldog with Silver (1897) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-002-39245

A keen eye may notice the stamp on this pipe's shank which reads: "Surbrug Best Make". The name Surbrug belongs not to a pipe manufacturer, but rather a tobacco-shop-turned-pipe-reseller founded in the 1800's. While they didn't manufacture their own pipes, Surbrug did, however, produce and sell their own cigarettes and tobaccos, the latter of which included popular blends like Golden Sceptre, Arcadia Mixture, and Best Make.

Bearing an additional, more recognizable stamp is the silver accent on this bent Bulldog's shank. This part of the pipe has been stamped by Barling, signifying its true origins. Being a Barling-made pipe, it of course demonstrates the excellent overall quality and sophisticated engineering that came to be associated with the marque.
